The Opportunity
Introduction
Imperial’s operations at the Norman Wells site in the Northwest Territories rely heavily on ice roads during winter months to transport goods and personnel. Recognizing the critical need for a specialized training program, Imperial partnered with Dynacor to develop an Ice Roads Orientation eLearning module, ensuring all workers are adequately prepared for the unique challenges of ice road travel.
Challenges
Creating an orientation program for ice roads during the summer posed significant challenges, primarily due to the absence of ice and snow for visual references. The training needed to be ready before the onset of winter, necessitating innovative solutions to depict realistic winter conditions.
The Solution
Dynacor employed a combination of traditional rendering techniques and real-time rendering using Unreal Engine 4. This approach allowed for the creation of high-quality 3D animations and graphics that accurately represented the icy terrains and conditions workers would face, all within a reduced production timeline.
The Result
The completed Ice Roads Orientation module was successfully launched in time for the winter season. It is now a mandatory training requirement for all personnel utilizing the ice roads at the Norman Wells site, contributing to enhanced safety and operational efficiency.
